3 Ways To ACTUALLY Lose Weight

This isn’t going to be a miracle weight loss story. I know that’s exactly what you were hoping for. But, I’m here to tell you, sister, weight loss just isn’t as easy as it seems. I’ve struggled with weight loss for the past 3 years and I am finally ready to get serious and buckle down about my health.

So before that, let me tell you a quick story. Pop some popcorn because this is a good one. *takes a deep breath* Okay, here goes. My senior year of high school, I met this girl who sat at my lunch table. I had never met her before, but me being a friendly person, quickly became friends with her. We sat next to each other chatting our hearts out in our 30 minute lunch period every day for an entire year. We learned about each other’s likes and dislikes and quickly became fast friends. It was nice to have someone to talk to in the midst of high school life.

Summer break rolled around and we went our separate ways to become involved in summer activities. Activities which included a summer of summer workouts (volleyball) for me. Fast forward to the next school year, and me looking for a seat at lunch. Now I sat at the same lunch table for 3 years in a row, and everyone knows that in high school the most nerve-racking thing is finding someone to sit with at lunch on the first day.

I approached my table and saw a girl I didn’t recognize. Y’all, it was her! She was so much more slender and sleek, she had to have dropped about 20 pounds over the course of the summer! We quickly greeted each other and I was so surprised yet shocked at the sudden weight loss. I’ve always thought people are beautiful no matter what shape, size, or color they come in. We chatted about the weight loss and how she made such a sudden change. ‘I changed my diet,’ she said. ‘I stopped eating out, and I counted my calories and watched what I put in my body.’

That conversation changed my entire mindset, I kid you not! I started paying attention to what I was eating at lunch (school lunches), working out more (outside of volleyball), and spending more time working on my happiness. Now, just a disclaimer, I was not a chunky girl in any regard, and I wasn’t doing it to lose weight. I wanted to be healthier and in the best shape ever.

After 3 months of working out more and focusing on my diet, I lost 10 pounds. I was cut y’all. I had muscles on top of my muscles. Right around the time of my first fitness journey, I started this blog Lipstick & Lifting. I fell in love with all things fitness and how they can be directly correlated to someone’s happiness.

There is a phrase that holds true for a lot of things.

‘When you look good, you feel good.’

After a couple of years of life, I eventually put on more weight than I hoped to. I’m a whopping 242 pounds (lost 8 pounds, look for that blog post later). The heaviest that I was in my life was back in 2011 where I was only 170 pounds! How often do I wish that I was the ‘fat’ I was then.

These are some methods that helped me that may be able to help you!

How To Lose Weight!

  1. – Getting more active during the day
    – I bought myself a Fitbit a couple of years ago, so I would be more aware of how many steps that I’m taking. My FitBit has become my best friend and I love it dearly. I have a couple of videos on the benefits of Fitbit here.

2. – Changing The Way I Ate
– Now, this might be self-explanatory, you have to change the way you eat. I started really slow by cutting out one thing at a time. I didn’t go crazy by cutting out bread and everything that I love. Just one small thing at a time. Example, I stopped drinking sugary drinks. Bye bye Kool aid!

3. – Finding Someone To Do It With
-I felt like my lunch table friend was a great asset in my weight loss. She was there for me and I for her. Find someone who will help you lose weight the right way! Motivate each other. Have each other’s backs!
